Step 2 - Process
1) The Materials Specialists needs to make sure you have all of your supplies by checking them off the SUPPLY LIST.
2) In your SCIENCE JOURNALS write a prediction of what you think the experiment is all about. What do you think is going to happen with these materials? What does this have to do with the Laws of Motion?
3) The Recorder needs to get the OBSERVATION SHEET & PENCIL ready.
4) The MATERIALS MANAGER needs to stack the 4 IDENTICAL TEXT BOOKS on top of each other.
5) Then they should tuck one end of the CARDBOARD STRIP under the cover of the top TEXT BOOK.
6) Next, take a piece of tape and fold one of the ends over a little bit to make a flap. Then put the piece of tape in the center of the top cover of the book. This is the "starting line" for the car.
7)Put the TOY CAR on top of the top TEXT BOOK. DO NOT MAKE IT GO DOWN THE CARDBOARD YET!!!
8) When the RECORDER says go, they will start the timer at the same time the MATERIALS MANAGER gently pushes the car down the ramp.
9) When the car stops, the RECORDER needs to stop the timer and record the seconds on the OBSERVATION SHEET.
10) The MEASUREMENT SPECIALIST needs to measure how far the car traveled using the TAPE MEASURE. They will need to give this distance in inches to the RECORDER so they can write it on the OBSERVATION SHEET.
11) Repeat this process until your group has used all 4 textures (bare cardboard, felt, foil & sandpaper). You may have to carefully attach some of the materials to the cardboard with tape. BE CAREFUL as these supplies need to be in good condition for next year too.
